Measures to Enhance National Counter Terrorism Arrangements

The December 2002 COAG considered a report from the National Counter-Terrorism Committee (NCTC) which provided an overview of security arrangements and canvassed a number of measures to enhance national counter-terrorism arrangements.

The Review identified a number of areas for further review and collaborative action, including:

• Protection of critical infrastructure;
• Improved regulation, reporting and security for the storage, sale and handling of hazardous materials;
• Development of an agreement to improve the security of surface transport systems in Australia;
• Upgraded communications systems and increased funding for joint exercises between agencies involved in prevention of terrorism and crisis and consequence management arrangements and capabilities.
