Counter-Terrorism
This section provides an overview of what can be done to help protect South Australia from the threat of terrorism. This advise is part of the South Australia Government's State Strategic Plan which, in part, affirms the Government commitment to "be vigilant against terrorism." In this regard, South Australia is working closly with the Federal Government and all other State and Territory Governments in adopting a consist approach.
The public has a vital role to play in counter-terrorism, especially in regard to preparation and response. The same partnership arrangement that exists between the public and the police with regard to "crime prevention" (e.g. Neighbourhood Watch) can be extended to fighting terrorism as well. After all, terrorism is another form of crime. Together with the police, the public can help prevent terrorism.
To do this, we must focus on the most vulnerable aspects of the terrorist's operation. From experience overseas we know that terrorists rely on planning and deception in order to carryout their attacks. Therefore, keeping a eye out for anything suspicious will not only help prevent crimes like car theft, but also help prevent terrorism; a stolen car cannot only be used for joy-riding but also as a car bomb.
